Evangelicals for McCain

This blog represents (I hope) evangelical conservatives or classical liberals who:

(1) Did not believe that Huckabee would be the best choice for various reasons.

(2) Either supported or seriously considered any of the other conservative candidates (like Romney, Thompson, Hunter, etc.) settling on McCain.

(3) Recognize that McCain has substantial and significant conservative credentials, including matters that are of special concern to evangelical conservatives, even if there are significant differences of which we cannot lose sight.

(4) May have felt burned by messages from McCain campaigners or self-described campaigners that suggested an anti-evangelical and/or anti-conservative sentiment but who want to turn the other cheek and work to rebuild an effective coalition to defeat would-be liberal executives

(5) Recognize that during Super Tuesday week and at other times, the candidate has made public gestures of wanting to re-unite and cooperate with conservative party members.

(6) Reject the idea that we can allow a period of liberal dominance to galvanize the conservative movement again, either ever or at a time like this, and

(7) Continue to demonstrate both to Republicans and to the future McCain administration that evangelical political conservatives are a valuable constituency by pulling together hard in behalf of McCain's election as the next president of the United States.

The next best thing to having a candidate who already agrees with us is to have a candidate with whom we can reason and come to a mutual understanding. It is better to win through persuasion than through overwhelming force. If we have to remake the case for our principles, so much the better. But we can contribute to this discussion be demonstrating our value and competence.

I think that McCain is the best candidate for this position of president now. Let's support McCain for President.
